I recently tried the new robot massage machine. Yes it’s a robot massage table powered by AI. It’s actually pretty cool and if you are like me, I like to experience new things so I decided to book a session and check to out for myself. The table looks like a regular table except there’s these 2 robot arms on each side and when you put your face in the cradle, you will see a tablet which you will be controlling. The touchscreen allows you to customize your session and has selections for you to choose the massage type (focus on back, glutes, low back etc), intensity of the pressure and type of music. The session starts with scanning of your body and then the robot starts the session. Surprisingly, when the robot touched my back, it wasn’t a cold machine; there was a feeling of warmth, like it kind of felt like warm knuckles instead of what I thought would be cold hard machine. As the robot was massaging me, I played with the settings, increasing pressure in the low back area and I also skipped the mid back to work on the low back instead.
In the end, it was an ok experience for me. It would not be something I would probably do again. For those thinking robots will eventually replace real touch, that won’t happen. A machine can not replace real human touch with skills and intention. But these machines may be good for people who 1- never had a massage before and are not comfortable removing their clothes. ( For this massage I was given a mesh full body suit), 2- a quick 30 minutes kneading and compression in targeted areas that need release.(these machines are being offered in gyms like Equinox) 3- people who prefer to be in control of the session (you can control via the touch screen areas that you need more pressure and increase or decrease the intensity of the pressure whenever you want) 4- it’s a good substitute for those in a rush, don’t have a lot of time and just want a quick no need to talk to anyone session. (you literally sign in, change into a mesh suit, get on the table and use the touch screen to control the settings)
The health and wellness industry is huge and continues to boom. There’s room for everyone to offer new and innovative ways to help others with their self care.

That’s me! It was not a very relaxing experience but it was an ok experience for me.
