How can I get rid of Cellulite?

pinaytherapist

My client asked me what can be done to get rid of cellulite? I myself have been looking for that answer since I was a teenager. Let’s face it, Cellulite is Normal! First of all what is Cellulite? Cellulite is caused by fat deposits that sit side by side with tough collagen fibers that are anchored to the muscle beneath the skin. There’s a disturbance of the subcutaneous fatty tissue caused by a combination of reduced circulation, reduced venous drainage, and reduced lymphatic drainage of the lower body. Cellulite almost always appear mostly in the lower body (Abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks). It has an orange peel appearance, where the skin is dimpling because as the fat cells accumulate, they push up against the skin creating an uneven surface. Fluid and toxin builds up between the cells and underneath the skin, making a thicker layer and eventually developing into fibers that surrounds the tissues.

Some factors associated with cellulite are: gender, mostly women get it but some men get cellulite too, weight gain, skin thickness, stress, inactive lifestyle, hormones, and genes/hereditary. I know skinny women who have cellulite too!

There’s a lot of treatments and techniques that’s been around as well as newly invented ones that may help reduce the appearance of cellulite. According to research, Acoustic wave therapy, laser treatment (laser fiber is inserted beneath your skin), vacuum- assisted tissue release, MLD, certain lotion/creams, Ionithermie, wraps/bandages, (decreases fluid retention) fat cavitation( ultrasonic waves to remove fat with infrared heat) and dry brushing. Liposuction may help but it only removes fat cells not cellulite. Another treatment called Carboxytherapy where CO2 gas is inserted beneath the skin (NOT Carbon Monoxide), Endermologie, Radiofrequency. Exercise( building muscle helps make the skin look tighter and smoother) making cellulite less noticeable.

Not recommended for cellulite:

Cryolipolysis, (freezes the fat) Mesotherapy, (injections with different substance) Supplements.

***Always best to consult with a Board Certified dermatologist or Board certified Plastic Surgeon, especially if you plan to get invasive treatment.

So I guess we are stuck with cellulite for now. But the good news is that there are ways to minimize or reduce the appearance on the skin. We just have to maintain and make it part of our self care.

For me, I’m always on the look out for the latest in creams and lotions and I dry brush as well as do self drainage. Dry brushing not only exfoliates the skin, it helps promote circulation and lymph flow drainage and my skin does feel smoother.
