The Power is within me

The month of February just flew by so fast. I can’t believe it’s the last day of the month and tomorrow is another day to set new goals and intentions. In today’s guided meditation, I’m reminded of the Power within me. When we are met with challenges like loss, overwhelmed by sadness or just feeling stuck and have no energy, I am reminded that we are powerful creators and we have the ability to honor and acknowledge our feelings and to consciously decide to surrender and let go. It’s the time to be mindful and get grounded. A few yoga poses can help you get grounded, be still and feel connected to the earth.

Try these simple poses to alleviate stress and connect with your inner power.

1- Tadasana- Standing mountain pose. Keep your feet on the ground and feel the earth supporting you, your shoulders back and soft, breath in slowly and breath out.

2- Child’s pose- Start on your hands and knees on the mat, toes together and knees apart wider than your hips. Then you bring your hips to your heels while moving your arms forward resting on the mat. Take an inhale and as you exhale move your hands forward. Don’t push yourself if feeling uncomfortable. Listen to your body and only push as far as you are comfortable. Stay here and rest your head on your hand or a block or towel. Feel your chest move as the air come in to your lungs. You are being supported by the earth.

3- Reclined Bound angle pose- This pose is a great hip opener, allowing that energy to flow in you as you breath in and out. Start by lying down on your mat, your lower back pressed on the mat, bring your feet together and your hands placed on your belly, your side or above your head.

4- Malasana or squat pose- This allow for energy to flow downward. This pose also has many benefits such as stretching your groin, calf, ankles and strengthening your glutes, core, quads and lower back. You can modify as needed by sitting on a block but make sure your feet is firmly on the floor.

5- Legs up on the wall- it’s a restorative pose and allows for the mind and body to slow down and relax. Bring your mat close to the wall and place your glutes to the wall and put your legs up against the wall. As you wind down and feel comfortable, you can take a deep breath and repeat the mantra- The Power is within Me.

Please make sure to always listen to your body and not force anything. It’s ok to modify and use props as needed. It’s your self care time and you should be feeling energized, lifted and supported.
